MOUNT HOLLY — The National Weather Service forcasted a sweltering mid-summer heat wave to last through Saturday.
An excessive heat warning has been issued across the mid-Atlantic until Saturday evening at 8 p.m.,when thunderstorms are expected to break through, bringing cooler temperatures.
With highs in the nineties, hot and humid conditions will push heat indexes to a range between 100 and 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
Oppressive heat will create dangerous conditions for anyone working in the sun and those without air conditioning.
"Leaving anyone, including pets and children, in non-air conditioned cars duting the day is very dangerous and can quickly become fatal," according to the warning. "Camp counselors and coaches should remain vigilant for signs of heat stress."
