It's the return of Walking off the Weight

WEST MILFORD — Do you want to be in better shape?Need support?The West Milford Health Department is offering a new program “Walking Off the Weight.” This seven-week program is designed for adults who want to get in shape and benefit from support of their peers.

Many of us have trouble loosing weight, either we can not stick to a diet or exercise daily.At “Walking Off the Weight,” participants will learn about the proper way to eat.Topics include learning to eat whole and healthy, the importance of fruits and veggies, portion control, stress,suggested calorie intake, exercise, wearing proper footwear,as well as other pointers that will aid in healthy eating/shopping.Each week a different speaker will be participating, including Foot Solutions, ShopRite of Warwick, West Milford Counseling Center, Mid-Summer Farms of Warwick and New York Sports Club of Butler. Take advantage of the weekly weigh-ins and body fat analysis to keep motivated.

Then take part in a group walk immediately after the education session at the West Milford High School track.The walking portion will take place from 9 to 10a.m. Did you know simply by walking regularly you can burn calories, strengthen muscles and bones, lower blood pressure, cut cholesterol levels, improve sleep, reduce stress and the risk of heart disease, diabetes and more?

Senior citizens are welcome. Parents and their children (4th grade and over) are encouraged to attend together.Join with a friend.

The group will meet at Macopin Middle School, on Wednesday mornings, fromJune 27 through Aug. 14 at 8:30a.m., rain or shine, followed by a group walk (weather permitting). There is no session on July 4.

This is a free program sponsored by the West Milford Health Department in partnership with Chilton Hospital. Registration is required.
