Jimmy picks up his barber pole and moves

— After 22 years in the same location, Jimmy Thurstans – better known as Jimmy the Barber - and his team of tonsorial experts have taken up new residence. Now located at 1811B Union Valley Road, the new shop is larger, smartly decorated and open for business. The official grand opening was held on June 11, with Mayor Bettina Bieri doing the honors.

After years under the threat of losing his store on Marshall Hill Road, a year ago he was told that the time was nearing to move as the ShopRite renovations would be commencing. Thurstans looked around, keeping a concerned eye towards his customer’s parking convenience.

Settling on the new store was simple once Thurstans found there is parking both in front of and behind the building.

“Everybody seems happy. The service is exactly the same, only the location has changed,” he said.

He credits his wife, Joan, with the contemporary interior design and looks forward to welcoming customers, old and new.

Finding the shop is easy. Just look for that well-known West Milford Florist big flower sign at the intersection of White and Union Valley Roads. Jimmy the Barber’s is the new neighbor next door.
