WEST MILFORD — Empty Bowls 2017 will be held on Monday, March 13, at Macopin School from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger. The basic idea for Empty Bowls is simple: students create ceramic bowls, and then serve a simple meal of soup and bread. Guests choose a bowl to take home as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world.
Attendees at West Milford's Empty Bowls will select a unique, hand-made bowl made by students and some teachers, and choose two types of soup. They then get to enjoy a meal with family and friends. The bowl is theirs to keep as a reminder of those who are hungry in the world.
This Empty Bowls event, the sixth annual in West Milford, is a true collaboration from students and teachers in the high school. 2D Design students designed the logo, Digital Art students made the design into a flyer. Sculpture, Art 1 and Art 2 classes along with the National Art Honor Society and Art Club students make the bowls and run the event, including set up, ticket sales and serving. Culinary students make the soup and run the kitchen during the event.
The main objectives of Empty Bowls are:
Raise money to feed the world’s hungry people.
Increase awareness of hunger and related issues - Through education, awareness, and action, concerned individuals can bring about an attitude that will not allow hunger to exist.
Advocate for Art Education - Nurturing the creative process through the arts enhances the possibility of finding new solutions to old problems.
