As part of its mission to serve as the community's intellectual and cultural center, the West Milford Township Library is proud to celebrate the talents of its community members by highlighting their creative works.
The library's summer exhibit highlights the paintings of local artists Elizabeth Rostkowski-Post and Allison Hosford.
The public is invited to visit during the months of July and August (beginning July 2) to enjoy this display in the West Milford Township Library and Community Center second floor Gallery.
The two artists have been painting together since they met at the Wallisch Homestead Pleine Air open house a few years ago with the Two Pond Farm Tuesday Morning pleine air painting group.
They both have won awards at the annual Saint Catherine's of Bologna and Wallisch Homestead Original Art shows.
Rostkowski-Post is self-taught and specializes in acrylics and pastels.
Since retiring, her painting subjects have included local scenery from Ringwood and West Milford, individual portraits and still life compositions.
For Hosford, painting began as a shared family hobby.
She spent childhood Sunday afternoons with her siblings and father painting in their living room as well as during family canoe trips and vacations.
She went on to study Studio Art in college but then stopped painting for over 30 years.
Hosford resumed her art with watercolor painting in her mid-50s, studying under Theresa Quirk, and Joel Popadics.
"Re-entering the inner universe of light and shadows, color and movement has been one of the most rewarding ventures of my lifetime," Hosford said.
The West Milford Township Library, in partnership with the Township of West Milford, encourages local artists to apply to exhibit their works in the Gallery of the library and Community Center located at 1470 Union Valley Road.
As an educational and cultural institution, the library welcomes exhibits of interest to the general public, with preference given to local artists.
Applications for future exhibits are now being accepted.
