NEW YORK CITY — New Jersey residents are headed to the People's Climate March in New York City on Sunday, Sept., 21, 2014 for what is likely to be the largest climate event in history. As many as 10,000 New Jerseyans are expected to join tens of thousands of people from all over the United States in this peaceful, family-friendly march to voice their support for investment in a new, clean energy economy that creates good jobs and healthy communities for all.
The People's Climate March will be a two to three-mile march through midtown Manhattan. Endorsed by more than 1,000 community, faith-group, civic and labor organizations, the march is a response to the United Nations Climate Summit called by Secretary-General Ban-Ki Moon in order to prepare for world leaders reaching a global climate deal and developing emission reduction commitments.

According to GreenFaith.org, GreenFaith's mission is to inspire, educate and mobilize people of diverse religious backgrounds for environmental leadership. The group's work is based on beliefs shared by the world’s great religions - that protecting the earth is a religious value, and that environmental stewardship is a moral responsibility.
GreenFaith is mobilizing people of faith to support the People’s Climate March.
On Sept. 23, the United Nations is holding a one-day Climate Summit at UN headquarters. Leaders of the world's governments will gather to discuss the dire urgency of the climate crisis and to seek to build momentum towards an international climate treaty.
"The Climate March, two days before the Summit, offers people of all faiths with a vitally important opportunity to demonstrate their support for such a treaty," according to GreenFaith.org.
Logistics
The march will commence at Columbus Circle (West 57th Street) in Manhattan at 11:30 a.m. and end at 11th Ave. at 34th Street, approximately three hours later. More than 25 designated charter buses, trains, and ferries will take people across the Hudson, many at a reduced fare.
