On May 18, 14 scouts and nine adults from Scouts BSA Troop 159 in Hewitt hiked more than 11.5 miles of the Long Path in Palisades Interstate Park, earning the Northern New Jersey Historic Trail Emblem.
Their day started at the Fort Lee Historic Park Visitor's Center where they toured the exhibits and learned about the local history during the Revolutionary War.
Afterwards, they hiked the Long Path, passing under the George Washington Bridge and stopping at the many scenic overlooks, nature preserves, and stone ruins.
The hike ended at Camp Alpine, where the Scouts cooked dinner and settled in for the night, serenaded by Barred Owls and coyote in the distance.
