COLLEGE PARK, MD — Michael Lichtenberg of West Milford has received the University of Maryland College Park Scholars Outstanding Achievement Award for International Studies for 2012.
The awards are conferred upon students who exemplify a model scholar within the individual Scholars programs and throughout the Scholars community. Recipients of this award are selected by their program faculty for exhibiting exceptional scholarly attitudes and excelling in academics, research, and other scholarly activities, such as Discovery projects, service learning, and/or artistic undertakings.
Mike grew up in West Milford and is double-majoring in government and politics and economics with minors in military studies and resource and agricultural policy in economic development at the University of Maryland. He has served as the finance officer to the Residence Hall Association, and legislative coordinator and parliamentarian for the Student Government Association. Additionally, Mike attended the Harvard National Model United Nations conference in his freshman and sophomore years and is now serving as a peer mentor for the International Studies Model UN team. While at the University of Maryland, he has interned for Congressmen Bill Pascrell, Scott Garrett, and most recently, David Drier. Mike, a 2010 graduate of West Milford High School, has also attended Congressional House Rules Committee meetings and given tours of the United States Capital. After graduation, Mike plans to attend graduate school for public policy and eventually work in government. Mike is the son of Marilyn and Thomas Lichtenberg.
