New Focus Haircutters held a grand opening in its new location of Bearfort Shopping Village on Saturday. Mayor Bettina Bieri was there for the official ribbon-cutting as were patrons, friends and members of the community.
Red, white and blue balloons decorated the shop for the event. Refreshments included hot dogs, coffee and donuts, with snack bags for kids. Guests were invited to enter their names to win a prize at the end of the day. Anyone making a new appointment on that day, for the month of September, received 10 percent off service and a free gift.
Frank Curcio, and his wife, Diane, are co-owners of the salon. Curcio has been in the business for 30 years. As a young man, he sought a trade and attended Central Barber School in New York City. He worked for others for many years and eventually started his own salon, New Focus Haircutters, about 14 years ago. Services include everything: haircutting, hairdressing, color, highlighting, perms and barbering. It’s a family salon where customer service is their primary goal.
"I needed to be closer to center of town and more space to expand," Curcio said. So he moved from his previous location on Lakeside Road to Bearfort Shopping Village.
"New Focus Haircutters takes the time to work with each client to better meet their needs and expectations through consultations, recommendations and the client's personal needs," Curcio said.
The salon recently welcomed new staff member Santo Verrilli ("Mr. V." aka "Babe"). Curcio said, "He's proven to be an asset to the business because of his many years of barber experience and owing his own business in West Milford for years."
Curcio added he's grateful for an amazing group of people that work with him. Besides Curcio and Mr. V., who are barbers, the staff also includes Joann, Emily, Ann and Jerry, who work together as a team and assist one another with the client's satisfaction being their ultimate goal.
Curcio is also involved in the community. He serves on the zoning board. He's been there for two and a half terms: 8 years. "I serve on the Zoning Board because it's a privilege and my way of giving back to the Community for having a successful business for 14 years and being able to live in our beautiful Township," he said. In his free time Curcio enjoys golf and fishing.
But his heart is in his business. "The most important [part of business] is communication with your customers," Curcio said. He and his staff listen to their clients and want them to be happy with the results. "We care about how our clients look as they leave our salon," he said.
Listen to what his customers have to say:
Larry J.: "Frank has been my hairstylist for over 20 years. He makes my hair look great and has always made me feel comfortable in the friendly atmosphere in his salon."
Bobby B.: Frank is a master of his trade. I've been going to him for hair cuts for more than 15 years and it always looks fantastic as I get what I wanted. Frank along with his staff run a very clean operation.
What's the best part of his job? That's easy. "Customer satisfaction." Curcio said.
