WEST MILFORD — Richard Dygos, a Macopin Middle School business teacher, conducted “Operation Thank You” for the 10th consecutive year to help put a smile on the faces of soldiers serving in Afghanistan. Dygos sent out memos to the Macopin School faculty and students asking for donations for local area soldiers serving overseas. Eighteen care packages were put together for our brave military men and women. The packages not only contained candy, hygiene products, food and sports equipment, but also dozens of Girl Scout cookies generously donated by the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey. Also, Sparta Middle School participated in the program by writing dozens of letters and pictures. These letters, along with well wishes and thank you notes from our students in Macopin Middle School, were included in all of the care packages.
Thanks go out to the West Milford Education Foundation, which provided grant money to Operation Thank You, the Girls Scouts of Northern New Jersey, Jim Gilligan, West Milford First Aid Blood Drive, Jennifer Caputo and all of the Sparta Middle School teachers, Hudson City Savings Bank and all who contributed to the program via Macopin School or through the West Milford First Aid station.
