WEST MILFORD Richard Dygos, a Macopin Middle School business teacher, conducted Operation Thank You for the ninth consecutive year to help put smiles on the faces of soldiers serving in Afghanistan. Dygos sent out memos to the Macopin School faculty and students asking for donations for local area soldiers bravely serving overseas. Twenty care packages were put together for the military men and women. The packages not only contained candy, hygiene products, food and sports equipment, but also dozens of packages of Girl Scout cookies generously donated by The Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey.
Also included in the packages were letters written by students in Macopin Middle School and Sparta Middle School, as well as pictures.
Dygos thanks the West Milford Education Foundation for providing grant money to Operation Thank You, the Girls Scouts of Northern New Jersey, Jim Gilligan, West Milford First Aid Blood Drive, Jennifer Caputo and all of the Sparta Middle School teachers, Hudson City Savings Bank, Mrs. Travers, Jenn Kupcho, Natalie Certosimo, Ashley Chavez, Colleen Connors, Tiffany Valencia and all who contributed to the program via Macopin School or through the West Milford First Aid station.
