Pack 51 Scouts Wowed by Weboree
WEST MILFORD — Webelos Scouts from Northern New Jersey Cub Scout Packs, including Cub Scout Pack 51 of Oak Ridge/West Milford, attended the 24th annual Weboree sponsored by the Northern New Jersey Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
The weekend camping event was held in April at Camp NoBeBoSco in Blairstown. This event was solely for 4th grade/first year Webelos Scouts and a parent/guardian, to give them a taste of what Boy Scouting has to offer at the next level and also introduce them to Cub Scout and Boy Scout camping opportunities that are available over the summer.
Attending Webelos Scouts were given opportunities to go to demonstrations at various stations, including first aid, knife and ax, fire building, model campsite, leave no trace, nature, outdoor cooking, archery, differently-abled awareness challenge and more.
An "Activities Badge Midway” was also held on Sunday morning where the boys could try some of the more difficult activity badges that are options to complete on their road to their final goal in Cub Scouting- the “Arrow of Light” badge and their cross-over to the Boy Scouting program.
The event was a Friday and Saturday overnight camping trip for boys and their parent/guardians. Activities included fishing, rope making, Parade of Flags, field events, archery range, leader’s event, campfire and more.
The boys were also able to complete the final requirements for their Outdoorsman Activity Badge, which is a required badge to earn on their Cub Scouting journey to the final Arrow of Light badge.
The boys had loads of fun, met new friends, learned valuable skills, and were exhausted by the time they got home. Leave it to the Boy Scouts of America to know exactly how to entertain, educate, and wear-out about 400 nine- and 10-year-old boys all at once in the span of one weekend, and make it so enjoyable they want to go back again!
