Passaic County salutes disability champions

    TOTOWA — Do you know someone who has done wonderful things to benefit the disabled here in West Milford and throughout the county?

    Passaic County has started a new initiative to recognize the accomplishments made by or for those with disabilities. Nominations for the 2012 Salute of Champions for Disabilities Awards will be accepted through April 5.

    West Milford resident Janice Sangle, who isvice chairwoman of the Passaic County Advisory Council on Disabilities, was one of the individuals who spearheaded the county-wide initiative.Sangle worked with Freeholder Deborah E. Ciambrone and her fellow Advisory Council on Disability board members, Cecilia Feeley and Ann Long, to start the program this year.The Salute of Champions for Disabilities 2012 Awards is through a partnership between the Passaic County Freeholders and the Passaic County Advisory Council on Disability.

    The 2012 Champions for Disabilities Awards ceremony will be on Tuesday May 8, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the Freeholder’s meeting room at 401 Grand Ave., Paterson.The award ceremony will include recognition from the freeholders and a certificate from the county.

    The nominations for the Champions of Disabilities are open.The criteria is for Passaic County individuals and groups who were determined to have significantly advanced the cause of people with disabilities, whether by being a model of perseverance and determination for their peers or by creating programs and spearheading efforts that recognizes their potential.When nominating a person or group for the awards, the nominee’s contributions to county residents should be emphasized.

    The nominations forms are available on the county Website at www.passaiccountynj.org/ under county initiatives or directly at www.passaiccountynj.org/notice/d7f27d83/show.For those interested in submitting multiple nominations, please use separate forms.

    All nominations must be completed and received at the county no later than April 5, 2012.The form should be mailed to: Passaic County Advisory Council on Disability, c/o Madeleine Soriano-Matarranz, PASP Coordinator, Dept. of Human Services, 401 Grand St., Room 417, Paterson, NJ 07505.
