Pooches strut their stuff in Walk-a-Dog-athon

Dozens of pooches and their humans strutted their stuff Sunday in Wawayanda State Park during the West Milford Animal Shelter's annual Walk-a-Dog-athon.

Lynn Rhinesmith of West Milford and Brodie, dressed as the dynamic duo, Batman and Robin, tied for 1st Place in the best-dressed contest with Fawn Woods and Molly.

Haylie Rocco's Jaxson took home a second place prize for the smallest doggie. The pals also snagged an honorable mention in the best-dressed category.

WEST MILFORD ‑ Dozens of pooches and their human sidekicks strutted their stuff this past Sunday in Wawayanda State Park during the West Milford Animal Shelter's Western-themed Walk-a-Dog-athon.
They were there to lend a paw to support homeless dogs and cats.
Every canine participant got a goody bag and a bandanna. There were fun contests for dogs and humans: Best Dressed Dog and Owner, Biggest Dog, Smallest Dog, Best Kisser (dog) and Best Human Howler. There was also an alumni parade for dogs adopted from the shelter. Contest winners for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place in each category received a gift bag and a medal.
There was face painting, bean bag tossing and guessing games.
Registration was free but there was a suggested donation of $10 per dog. Anyone who donated $100 or more received a free T-shirt. The seven people who raised or donateed the seven highest amounts also won prizes.
There were more than 80 registrations and attendance was estimated at around 200 people and 125 dogs.
There were stations along the walk route with water and snacks for dogs and humans. There was also a food truck.
And the winners who raised or donated the highest amounts are:
Lynn Rhinesmith: Grand Prize, $400 JRC Gift Certificate/JRC West Milford.
Dana Freedmam: 1st Place, $300 ShopRite Gift Certificate/SR West Milford.
Jen Blackton: 2nd Place, $275 Pet Portrait/Artistry by Linda Marie/Pompton Plains.
Nicole Comeo: 3rd Place, $100 Target Gift Card/Target Riverdale.
Heather Milano: 4th Place, $75 VISA Gift Card/ from Critter Sitter Pet Sitting Services, Hewitt.
Kelly Killeen: 5th Place, $60 action camera/Greenwood Lake Animal Hospital, Hewitt.
Ken and Fran Lundy: 6th Place, $25 Gift Card//DQ Ringwood. Other winners were:

2nd place - tie: Kayleigh and Kelsey Kaminsky with Snuggles and Deana Smidt with Roxie and Zacky.
3rd place - tie: Vivian Kreczkowski with Lenny and Kimberely Lehmann with Kristy and Kelley.
Honorable Mention - three: Karle Donohoe with Leia, Haylie Rocco with Jaxson, and Jan Blackton with Kensi.

Smallest Dog:
1st place - tie: Stephanie Sullivan with Dolce and Peter Davis with Cricket.
2nd place - tie: Maryann Malorgio with Cosmo and Haylie Rocco with Jaxson.
3rd place - tie: Kristine Baker with Buddy Boy Bob Barker (all one name) and Robert Russo with Luna.

Largest Dog:
1st place - tie: Virginia Moore with Wyatt and Sehir Izejrosky with Rocky.
2nd place - tie: Linda West with Spirit and Sarah Clark with Laady.
3rd place - tie: Tammie Profitko with Maximus and Flo Iannanuano with Lily.

Best Kisser:
1st place - tie: Lynn Rhinesmith with Brodie and Tim Harrington with Pepper.
2nd place - tie: Kimberly Lehmann with Kristy and Kelley and Michael DeMarco with Nora.
3rd place - tie: Kristine Banek with Farrah Fawcett and Sarah Clark with Lady.

Best Human Howler:
1st place - Kristine Banek.
2nd place - Sarah Clark.
