WEST MILFORD — The township will hold four public hearings at its meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 20, including one on reducing the charge for police services for events held in the township by private entities.
The township currently charges a 25 percent administrative fee on top of the cost of the officers. It is proposed to reduce that fee to 10 percent. The charge for the officers would remain the same. The rate of pay for officers is equal to the overtime rate of the officers being employed or straight time rates if special officers are used.
In an effort to bring more events to the township, some in the community have requested that outside security be used because of the cost, suggesting the state police or county sheriff's department be utilized. Lowering the fee associated with each officer has also been suggested, using a flat fee per officer like some other towns. Those options are not in the proposed ordinance.
The township will also discuss fees relating to parks and recreation activities, salaries for seasonal employees and compensation for administrative, confidential and unaffiliated employees.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the township hall, 1480 Union Valley Road.
