WEST MILFORD — Sandy Hefferon was named Marshall Hill Elementary School's teacher of the year. She has 18 years experience, 14 at Marshall Hill. Hefferon taught basic skills for a short time, then third grade for a few years before moving on to sixth grade.
While talking to Mrs. Hefferon, I asked her what her favorite subject was to teach. She responded
“I love to teach reading," said Hefferon, when asked what her favorite subject to teach is. "I’ve been a lifelong reader, so the pleasure of a good book is one of my favorite things in the world. I love to lose myself in a great novel, to become friends with a character, to curl up in the silence late at night not wanting the book to end. I hope I instill this passion in my students.”
Hefferon said she feels honored to be chosen and feels that every teacher at Marshall Hill School is worthy of this award. All of our teachers inspire their students to be the best they can be, she said.
This is Hefferon's first time being named teacher of the year at Marshall Hill. She has received the Governor's Teacher Award previously.
This is a small glimpse of what Hefferon enjoys and has accomplished in her teaching career.
