WEST MILFORD — The AP US Government and Politics class has officially completed a foundation with a Web site for the West Milford High School Military Alumni Project. The goal is to have as complete a list as possible of former West Milford High School students who are or were formerly in the military.
The class began the project during the winter last school year with the intention to compile the military alumni list from the high school for those who graduated in 2000 through 2012. Students in the class interviewed, e-mailed, and wrote articles for the local and school newspapers to gather information and garner support for the project. They used a free web building application through Google Sites.
"We were amazed that individuals dating back to the 1970s responded and thus, the class went beyond the 2000-2012 range," said Greg Matlosz, the teacher of the AP US Government and Politics class.
As more and more former students submitted their information, Matlosz said, the class decided to research photographs from the school's collection of older yearbooks and use the graduation photos alongside the former students' military photo, if the former student wanted their photo on the site.
"Ultimately, as an educator, I found myself wrapped around something so precious to this community - their children's service to West Milford Township and ultimately the country as a whole and we were all inspired to complete this project," said Matlosz.
