WEST MILFORD — On Thursday, March 20, students in levels four and five from the international language classes of Italian, French, Spanish, and German, took a field trip to Ellis Island and Liberty Island. The students had been studying immigration, and learning about what their ancestors went through in order to start their new lives in America. The students were able to research family members who may have passed through Ellis Island by searching through online records, and searching for the names of their ancestors on the panels of the American Immigrant Wall of Honor, inscribed with over 700,000 names. The students and teachers took a boat ride over to Liberty Island where they received a personal tour through the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty and enjoyed an up-close encounter of this iconic figure of freedom.
