    It was a perfect day for shopping Wednesday as over 500 shoppers came to the opening day of the West Milford Farmer's Market.

WEST MILFORD — You just couldn't ask for a better opening day for the West Milford Farmer's Market. Bright sunshine, comfortable temperatures, a dozen vendors and hundreds of shoppers - around 500 for the day - flocked to the West Milford Presbyterian Church's parking lot for the 2013 opener. Lots of colorful flowers, just-picked greens, farm-fresh eggs and meats, pickles, pizza, and beautiful strawberries were scooped up by shoppers on this first day of the season. And, as a bonus, they all got to hear the beautiful sounds of Loretta Hagen as they did their shopping.

Sponsored by Sustainable West Milford, the Farmer's Market brings local farmers and producers together to sell their fresh, local food to residents. This year, according to Dave Watson-Hallowell of Sustainable West Milford, the market organizers are pleased to have Och's Orchard from neighboring Warwick, N.Y. join the market. The strawberries were picture perfect.

Hazelman Farms from West Milford is a market favorite, as well as Snoep-Winkel Farms with their fresh eggs and meats, Noble Pies and so many more.

James "JAS" Kuhta, of MeasuRight Land Surveying in Hewitt, entertained young and old alike with his juggling talents. Pinky made balloon animals for the little ones.

So now the season has begun. The West Milford Farmer's Market will be held each Wednesday, rain or shine, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the West Milford Presbyterian Church parking lot. For more information, go to sustainablewestmilford.org.
