This week we Take Five with Christian Porcaro, a sophomore student at West Milford High School and an avid wrestler. Wrestling is in his blood and he takes pride in being a Highlander even though he's fairly new to town. Be sure to go to our Web site, westmilfordmessenger.com, to see our Bonus Five with Christian.
1) How did you get involved with wrestling?
I've been involved with wrestling since I was little, about 6 or 7, but it's a family sport. My dad and his brother wrestled so it was kind of a tradition through our family.
2) Who is your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration would probably be my dad because he is very successful and I can only wish to be like him.
3) Share a favorite moment with your team.
My favorite moment with my team would have to be beating Lakeland, our biggest rival.
4) What does being a Highlander mean to you?
being a Higlander means working your hardest at whatever you want to do, rooting not only for your sport but all the sports our school has to offer. Finally being a Highlander means having faith in your school and your community.
5) What do you do with your time when you are not wrestling?
Well since I'm a wrestler and most of my time goes to keeping my weight down and under control, my favorite thing to do in my spare time would be eating. I love it!
There are plenty of great places to eat in town, too, so have at it Christian! Do you know someone who should be featured here in Take Five? Let us know by emailing us their name and email address at njoffice@strausnews.com. We want to feature all of the great young people in West Milford.
Bonus Five
6) What would most people be surprised to know about wrestling?
The thing most people would be surprised to know about wrestling would be that it's alot harder than it looks. It's not only a physical sport but mental too. You have to be an all-around strong person.
7) Who is your favorite teacher of all time and why?
I just moved to West Milford a year ago but my favorite teacher so far would have to be Mr. Mazlaneck. He can be fun at times and get serious like all good teachers.
8) Name three things you would bring with you if you were on a deserted island.
My three things would be my cell phone (this might sound crazy but I cant live without it. I might not get service and the battery would die pretty quick but it would be a comfort thing), number two would be a knife, and number three would be a pillow.
9) What is your favorite movie, book or character and why?
My favorite movie would have to be Vision Quest. It's about wrestling and the determination to defeat your biggest rival whatever it may be.
10) Share something no one knows about you.
Something no one knows about me is that I really wish I could play the guitar and sing just because it seems like fun things to know.
