Ten years of Operation Thank You

WEST MILFORD — Richard Dygos, a Macopin Middle School business teacher, conducted “Operation Thank You” for the tenth consecutive year to help put a smile on the faces of soldiers serving in Afghanistan. Dygos sent out memos to the Macopin School faculty and students asking for donations for local area soldiers bravely serving overseas. Marc Citro and Dygos also sponsored a bagel breakfast contest for the homeroom that donated the most items and letters to Operation Thank You. The winning homeroom this year was Ms. White’s Room A.
Eighteen “big” care packages were put together for our brave military men and women. The packages not only contained candy, hygiene products, food and sports equipment, but also dozens of Girl Scout cookies generously donated by The Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey. Also, Sparta Middle School participated in the program by writing dozens of letters and pictures. These letters as well as letters from our students in Macopin Middle School were also included in all of the care packages.
Dygos thanks the Macopin Middle School staff, West Milford High School basketball program, Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey, Jim Gilligan, West Milford First Aid Blood Drive, Jennifer Caputo and all of the Sparta Middle School teachers and students, Hudson City Savings Bank, Annette Novakowski and all who contributed to the program via Macopin School or through the West Milford First Aid station.
