WEST MILFORD — Halloween in West Milford is a special time. The West Milford Community Services and Recreation's annual Halloween Parade, Jack-O-Lantern Contest and Trunk Or Treat will be held at Bubbling Springs Lake on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013.
Participation in the costume contest is for West Milford children only, up to 11 years old. Participants are encouraged to pre-register at the Community Services and Recreation Office in Hillcrest Community Center between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Registration at Bubbling Springs on the day of the parade will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. only. The parade begins at 11 a.m. Entertainment will be provided during the event. The Halloweenie Lunch - hot dog, water and chips - is available for $3.
First, second and third place trophies will be given in the following age groups: 2 and under, 3 and 4 years old, 5 and 6 years old, 7 and 8 years old, and 9 through 11 years old. There will be one first place trophy for groups.
After the parade and awards for best costumes, the kids can trick or treat safely with the township's Trunk Or Treat. A free hay ride will take participants to the Trunk Or Treat area, where kids will go from car to car - trunk to trunk - collecting their Halloween goodies. This was a great success last year, with some very creatively decorated trunks. Fun trophies will be given out to the most original, best overall, scariest and funniest trunk. Civic groups, neighborhoods and families get together to make one trunk or park near each other.
All are invited for the Trunk Or Treat.
There will be a Jack-O-Lantern contest too, just for children. Register at Bubbling Springs the day of the parade. Trophies will be given out for best carved, best decorated and biggest.
If the weather doesn't cooperate, the parade will be held at Hillcrest Community Center. Call the Recreation Department office at 973-728-2860 after 9 a.m. on Saturday to verify the location.
