WEST MILFORD – A township man is facing a first degree murder charge in the shooting death of a City of Paterson man on Dec. 19, police said.
According to a press release from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office on Jan. 4, Tysheik J. Williams, 26, of West Milford and Ashair Wilson, 22, of Paterson are each charged with first degree murder, two counts of first degree attempted murder, second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second degree possession of a community handgun and second degree unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with the Dec. 19 shooting death of Paterson resident Leexandre Torres, 23, in the city.
A third man, Yasmany Almodovar, 19, of Paterson, was charged with second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second degree possession of a community handgun, second degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and third degree hindering prosecution in the killing, police said.
According to police, the killing took place about 7:10 p.m. on Dec. 19 in the area of 233 16th Avenue in the City of Paterson.
Police arrived at the scene of the shooting to find Torres dead at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds.
Another 24-year-old city man suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound and was taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson where he was treated and released, police said.
According to police, the incident escalated from a dispute between two groups of individuals that went from a verbal argument to a physical fight.
It was at that point, police say, that “various individuals,” including Williams and Wilson, pulled out handguns and began shooting.
Police said the investigation is still active and ongoing.
The state filed a motion for pre-trial detention in the case, which will be heard by a Passaic County Superior Court Judge at a time and date to be determined, police said.
