WEST MILFORD — The weekend of Sept. 26, 27 and 28 looks like a good opportunity to have that garage sale you may have been thinking about. Or, it could be a call to the inner shopper. Either way, the township will allow garage sales on that last weekend in September with no fee or permit required by residents.
Councilman Mike Hensley said the Economic Development Commission suggested Sept. 27 and 28 for a town-wide garage sale. His council colleagues were fully on board. Councilwoman Michele Dale suggested adding Friday as well. She said she is an avid garage saler herself and most have sales for the full three days.
No fees, set hours
While the township will suspend fees and permits for that particular weekend, other requirements in the garage sale ordinance will be required, including removing any garage sale signs within 48 hours of the sale and holding the sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each of the three days. Residents who do not own the property must get permission from the property owner to have the sale there.
The township's ordinance requires a $10 garage sale license be purchased from the town clerk, which provides one garage sale sign. Additional garage sale signs cost $1 each. Those costs are waived for the last weekend in September only. The council may choose to repeat this in subsequent years.
So start cleaning out that basement and turn your trash into someone else's treasure.
