Two men remain critically injured after hit-and-run boat crash on Greenwood Lake

WEST MILFORD, N.J. — State police are looking for the boat operator responsible for a hit-and-run boat crash that left four people injured.
Two couples were boating on Labor Day at around 8:30 p.m. on Greenwood Lake north of Sportsmans Marina, according to New Jersey State Police, when the holiday took a bloody turn. An unidentified vessel - possibly a ski boat - hit the back of the victims’s 18-foot Bayliner boat.
Police think that after striking the back of the boat, the suspect boat became airborne and traveled over the top of the victims’s boat.
Owner and operator of the Bayliner, Edwin Lane, 72, of West Milford, N.J., and passenger Robert Roon, 76, of Newfoundland, N.J., were seriously injured during the crash.
Passengers Maureen Lane, 74, and Eileen Roon, 70, were also injured, but were able to help their husbands and navigate the boat back to a dock.
Edwin Lane and Robert Roon were flown to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, N.J., where they remain in critical condition.
Maureen Lane and Eileen Roon were taken by ambulance to the same hospital where they were treated for their injuries.
The crash is under investigation. Investigators do not believe the suspect boat had an outboard motor.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact Trooper Shane Diehl of the Carteret Station at 732-541-0491.
There is a $5,000 reward for tips leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
Sportsmans Marina committed $2500 to the reward, while the Greenwood Lake Commission, Moosehead Marina, Greenwood Lake Marina, Emerald Point Marina, and Defeo’s Marina all contributed $500 each.
