WEST MILFORD - On Jan. 13, the West Milford Varsity Dance Team held its annual home competition, hosting 12 visiting school teams and studios performing more than 30 routines in the genres of hip hop, jazz, lyrical, variety, kick, and pom.
The home competition is the largest fundraising event the team runs to earn their way to Nationals each year.
This year West Milford will attend the DTU Nationals Championship in Florida taking place Feb. 1-3.
“It’s a lot of work hosting an event like this, all made possible by the dedication of our coaches, dancers, parent booster club, and contributions from local businesses," team spokesman Kate Burns said. "The turnout and support from visiting teams as well as friends and family was terrific.”
The team of Madyson Healy, Renee burns, Amaya Falby, Brielle Pelissier, Meghan Kochan, Madison Maver, Alyssa Gunning, and Abby competed against other schools and studios, with routines in jazz, hip-hop, kick, and variety.
“West Milford had the privilege of hosting so many talented dancers today," Burns said. "The performances were great. A tremendous amount of training goes into each routine which is undeniable. We are really proud to be part of the dance community”.
