WEST MILFORD — Blue skies and crisp weather was the setting on Monday for Veteran's Day in West Milford. A small crowd gathered at the township memorial at 11 a.m., which is the tradition on the 11th day of the 11th month, at first marking the end of World War I but now honoring all veterans who have participated in any conflicts.

Bill Johnson, commander of the VFW, reminded those present that only 7 percent of Americans have worn the nation's uniform.

"That makes us an elite group," said Johnson.

Everyone in attendance was invited to the American Legion on Lincoln Ave. after the brief ceremony for refreshments.

This day is set aside to commemorate the valor and patriotism of those who have served and continue to, he added.

"We must never forget how blessed we are," said Johnson.
