— This year alone, more than 443,000 people in the United States will die due to a smoking-related health problem. Smoking is the number one cause of lung cancer and also increases your risk of heart disease, lung disease, diabetes and numerous other cancers. Smoking remains the leading cause of premature death in the United States. Most are aware of the health risks, but still have difficulties quitting this hazardous addiction. Quitting is hard enough, you don’t have to do it alone. Decide that enough is finally enough and join members of your community tackling the same habit once and for all.

The West Milford Health Department is offering free help to beat the addiction. CRUSH is a six-week smoking cessation support group open to West Milford residents and its employees, 17 years old and older, who are ready to quit smoking. CRUSH will be held on Mondays, April 15 to May 20 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Hillcrest Community School.

At CRUSH, we will beat the addiction together by planning to quit, setting a quit day, counseling and education. A focus will be on how to keep your body healthy during your withdraw time through exercise and proper nutrition. A natural, holistic approach is also discussed.

It is time to CRUSH that habit. Pre-registration is required. Call Marianne Stillman, West Milford health educator, at 201-248-4551 or email mstillman@chiltonhealth.org for more information and to register.
