WEST MILFORD — There are many reasons to applaud good health and many paths to take to help improve it or ensure its continuity. At West Milford Physical Therapy (WMPT), the Health and Wellness programs have been expanded and on Oct. 18 an open house was held at the clinic to help spread the word.
WMPT is under the ownership and direction of physical therapists Anne and Sean Kane who have practiced in West Milford for 25 years. Speaking for the facility, Anne Kane explained why they believe that attention to one’s health and fitness, at any age, goes beyond the completion of a round of physical therapy.
“One reason we want to promote wellness in our clinic is because often people are on the track to wellness when they reach their rehabilitation goals. We want to promote wellness in our facility and as professionals we closely monitor the exercises to help reduce the chance of injury, or we can add modifications when needed,” she said. She stressed that these programs are for everyone, not just former physical therapy patients.
Kane spoke of the importance of proper techniques and the understanding of the mechanics of exercise for safety’s sake.
Currently available at WMPT is a fitness program, therapeutic yoga, massage therapy, a Pilates program and personal training.
Watch your back
In these days of everything technological, the Kanes have noticed an increase in the number of neck, shoulder and back problems, starting with children and teens up through adults.
“We see the need to put an emphasis on posture in everything that we offer,” she said and explained that the smaller the technology device that is being used the more forward flexed the neck and shoulders become. This leads to rounded posture and a lot of problems.
Something for everyone
The programs at WMPT are open to one and all. They are small, individualized programs and great for people who want to exercise but are apprehensive or not comfortable in large classes.
All programs, except for message therapy, begin with a physical therapist’s assessment and a medical history review. Small class sizes increase the benefits and allow for a safe regiment under watchful eyes.
At the head of the class
While Mark Romain, a certified massage therapist, gets the kinks out, certified yoga instructor Sara Gallmann will lead you through your poses. Fitness programs are designed by the physical therapists.
Kim Minervini, a physical therapist and certified Pilates instructor, heads up the Pilates and personal training effort.
According to a WMPT brochure, Pilates is a safe and sensible exercise system that will help you look and feel your best. It consists of graceful movements that promote flexibility and agility while creating a sleek and toned body.
It’s your choice
With all these classes and services in one location and under the auspices of certified and experienced instructors and therapists, it seems that all that’s needed is comfortable clothing and a desire to walk on the fit and well side.
