    Pinwheels for Peace is a non-political project whose purpose is to show the symbolism of the winds of peace blowing throughout the world. The Westbrook community came out in force for it.

WEST MILFORD — Students throughout the West Milford school district participated in Pinwheels for Peace on Friday, Sept. 21, International Day of Peace. They joined people from all over the world who created pinwheels of all shapes and sizes as a symbol of peace.

Imagine, millions of pinwheels spinning in the wind throughout the world.

Pinwheels for Peace was started in 2005 by Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, two art teachers from Coconut Creek, Fla., as a way for students to express their feelings about what's going on in the world. In the first year, groups in over 1,325 locations throughout the world were spinning about 500,000 pinwheels on Sept. 21. In 2013, over 4.5 million pinwheels were spinning in over 3,500 locations, including the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada, the Middle East, Africa and South America.
