Woman's Club helping Gilda's Club of New Jersey

    WEST MILFORD — The Woman’s Club of West Milford is currently fundraising for their state project, Gilda’s Club of New Jersey.

    What is Gilda’s Club? Gilda’s Club offers emotional, psycho-social, non-medical support to anyoneaffected by cancer freeofcharge. This includes men, women, teens, and children living with any type of cancer, as well as their family and friends who surround them.

    Through a variety of in-house programs, held in the four locations presently operating in New Jersey, Gilda’s Club brings people together who are experiencing similar situations. While the services offered are free to clients, Gilda’s Club is responsible for raising 100 percent of its income to provide these services. Programs offered include: Kid Support, Grief Busters, Teens Together,family days,support andnetworking groups, workshops, lectures and social activities.

    The group is currently asking the community to help by donating the following items which would help Gilda’s Club in their Hackensack facility. There are collection boxes located in the Wells Fargo Bank, Columbia Savings Bank and a flyer in Lakeland Bank for your convenience.

    Coffee – regular and decaf, hand wipes, envelopes, glue, markers, pens,pencils, highlighters, copy paper, rubber bands, drink stirrers, batteries (AAA and C),children'sand adult’s scissors,children’s games, pot holders and dish towels, Post It Notes, file folders – letter and legal, erasers, thumb tacks, staplers, tape dispensers,Scotch tape, paper clips (small and large), and binder clips.

    Gilda’s Club is named in honor of Gilda Radner, the comedian best known as an original "Not Ready for Prime Time" player on Saturday Night Live, who died of ovarian cancer in 1989. Radner, when describing the emotional and social support she received when she had cancer, called for such places to be made available for people with cancer and their families and friends everywhere.
