The eighth grade students at St. Catherine of Bologna in Ringwood braved the cold temperatures and participated in a Water Walk on March 22. This is part of the curriculum that was included in a grant given by the Toshiba Corporation. The students have been learning about the shortage of clean water in third world countries. They walked three quarters of a mile to collect two gallons of water and carried it back "home." The goal was to enlighten the students to how fortunate they are to live in the United States and demonstrate the importance of stewardship. They have calculated their daily water usage, and compared it with the five gallons that third world countries use. They have also learned that women and children walk six or more hours every day to collect water in some places. This is a global problem which is celebrated as World Water Day on March 22.
