Lone surviving cat now needs a new home

Not everyone who lives alone is fortunate enough to have family or friends with whom they have regular contact. It may be some time before someone realizes that they have not seen the person, or that there may be a problem. A local West Milford resident, living alone, passed away, and it was almost two weeks before anyone checked in on her. She had one dog and five cats, who, during that time, were without food or water. When they were found, all of the pets were brought to the West Milford Animal Shelter. The dog passed away the following day and four of the five cats did not survive. Flo was lucky; she survived. It has taken some time for her to adjust to life at the shelter but after her recovery, she was not placed in a cage and was allowed free roam of the facility until a new home could be found for her. For a few days, she hid behind the desk in the shelter’s reception room. Now she wanders from room to room, and always comes out to greet the first volunteer to arrive in the morning. She prances out to greet everyone with her tail held high, a bounce in her walk and lots of happy meows. Flo likes most dogs and gets along well with other cats. She would be happiest in a mellow home with or without other pets. For more information, call 973-728-2859.
