West Milford Fire Company 4, the Macopin Fire Company, brought their appetites with them on Saturday Sept. 25, when they showed up at the Macopin Pizza-sponsored pizza-eating contest. Those appetites brought home $1,000 to the company as they bested their colleagues from Fire Company 3, 5, the West Milford First Aid Squad and the West Milford Policemen’s Benevolent Association. The firemen turned around and donated its winnings - all $1,000 of it - to the West Milford Fire Department’s Exempt Association’s burn-out fund. Macopin Fire Company’s three team members downed 18 slices of pizza in the five minutes allowed. Right behind was Fire Company 5 with 17 slices and Fire Company 1 with 15. Those firefighters sure love their pizza. Each team was given three pizzas. The team that ate the most in five minutes was the winner of $1,000 donated by Macopin Pizza. Each of the other teams was awarded $100 for supporting the event. They too donated their $100 to the burn-out fund. The Covello family, owners of Macopin Pizza, organized and sponsored the event. Town Tavern, Mr. DJ and MandB also contributed services to the event.
