WEST MILFORD The Republican Club of West Milford Township announced its 2007 local candidates for the November 6 General Election. they are former West Milford Council President Bill Gervens for mayor and long time township volunteers Marilyn Lichtenberg and Dan Jurkovic for council. Mayoral candidate Bill Gervens and his wife Dawn and family have been residents of West Milford since 1983. He is the president of Gervens Enterprises in Bloomingdale, a company that specializes in commercial construction. From 2004-2006, Gervens served on the West Milford Township Council and was elected president all three years. He is the past chairman of the Passaic County Planning Board, a member in good standing of Local 124 Brotherhood of Carpenters and Millwrights and an active member and past Deacon of Green Pond Bible Chapel. A few weeks back, he was named the Passaic County Police Chiefs Association’s 2007 Man of the Year. This is the third time that the association has awarded Gervens this prestigious award. Council candidate Marilyn Lichtenberg, husband Tom and family are active members of the community. She is a long time resident of West Milford and a graduate of West Milford High School. A real estate agent since 1971, she is currently affiliated with Century 21 Visions, West Milford. A past recipient of the West Milford Mary B. Haase Lifetime Volunteer award, she is well known throughout town for her volunteer work. She is active in the following local organizations: West Milford Rotary (Past President), Citizen Advisor to the high school Interact Club, PTA, Band Parents Association, Creative Playground Committee (Helped raise the funds for the new facility), C.A.S.A., Chamber of Commerce, Long Pond Iron Works, Recreation Committee, Friends of the Library, founder and participant of West Milford’s Relay for Life. Other organizations Lichtenberg in which has volunteered time tinclude: The PAL, Recreation Department, Cub Scouts, Girls Softball, Little League, Senior Housing Committee and the Macopin Fire Company Auxiliary. Council candidate Dan Jurkovic along with his wife Jolene and family have resided in West Milford since 1988. He is an attorney with his own practice specializing in representing the elderly and disabled. He is the co-editor for the Elder and Disability Law section for the New Jersey State Bar Association and a frequent speaker before state, county and civic organizations on the topics relating to the elderly and disabled. He has served nine years on the West Milford Board of Adjustment and is currently its vice-chairman. Since 1991, he has been a member of the Lindy’s Lake Board of Governors and has served as its president since 1995. He successfully implemented ecologically sound weed control treatments for the lake, worked with township officials to replace and maintain storm drains in the lake community, oversaw the paving of the roads in the lake community through the township’s Cooperative Repaving Program and coordinated the ten-year Lindy’s Lake Dam Rehabilitation project. All three candidates are self-made business people who make their living on their reputations. All three have extensive volunteer experience in the community and understand the needs and concerns of the town. They promise to focus on these three R’s.
