New recruits welcomed to township fire department

Eight join the ranks of West Milford’s bravest Wayne — Eight recruits from West Milford successfully completed the Firefighter 1 course at Passaic County Public Safety Academy in Wayne. The course is 140 hours in total and certified through the state of New Jersey. These young adults trained many hours and attended 1 of 2 training sessions to become West Milford Township volunteer firefighters. The spring class was held every Sunday from January to June and the fall class was held every Tuesday and Thursday nights and several Saturdays from July through November. Classes included fire science, communications, safety, fire extinguishers, building construction, ropes and knots, overhaul, medical services, hazmat, ladders, rescue, forcible entry, ventilation, hose applications, sprinkler systems, live burn practical, firefighter survival, self contained breathing apparatus, fire prevention, and physical training. Graduation ceremonies were held at Passaic County Vocational Technical High School on Friday, Nov. 20.
