WEST MILFORD Tuesday, despite its ominous date of 6-6-06, netted unsurprising results in the primary election. On the local level, “regular” Republican council candidates Joe Smolinski and Dr. Sal Schimmenti won by a nearly two-to-one margin over “real” Republican candidates Ada Erik and Dick Nobis. Schimmenti said on Wednesday, “I’d like to graciously thank everyone who came out to vote in the primary; it shows they want to make a difference.” Smolinski was unavailable for comment. Democrats gave the nod to their two unopposed candidates Jim Geist and James Rauth. The four will face off in November for two available seats, currently held by Joe Smolinski and Bill Gervens, who opted not to run again. Republicans were also asked to chose county committee people for the 13 voting districts in West Milford. With the exception of District 11, where Councilman Phil Weisbecker and Jim Novak were elected, voters chose the candidates endorsed by the “regular” Republican party. Democratic House of Representative candidate Paul Aronson beat Camille Abate, and Republican Scott Garrett beat opposition Michael Cino. On the Senate level, voters chose Republican Thomas Kean Jr. and Dems picked Robert Menedez.
