Officer injured after responding to accident

    WEST MILFORD — A West Milford police officer was injured Sunday morning after responding to a one-car accident on Route 23 near Germantown Road. Officer Shannon Sommerville was the second officer at the scene 10:18 Sunday morning. According to police, Sommerville took up his position in the right lane to the rear of the crash scene and had his emergency lights activated on his cruiser. As he exited his vehicle, Kathleen M. Clark, 45, of Hewitt, driving a 2002 Ford Focus, struck the police car from behind. Sommerville sustained injury and was transported to Chilton Memorial Hospital where he was treated and later released. Clark was not injured. She was issued a summons for careless driving. Both the police car and Clark’s vehicle were disabled as a result of the crash and towed from the scene.
