Hewitt The Upper Greenwood Lake Volunteer Ambulance Corps continues Operation Critical Condition, its drive to enlist new members, at an Open House at the Corps headquarters, 814 Warwick Turnpike, Hewitt, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 25. Members will be on hand to answer questions. Check out the UGLVAC Web site at www.wmoem.org/EMS/UGLFAS/uglfasmain.htm. Questions may be directed by phone to 973-853-7210 or via e-mail at uglvac@hotmail.com. Due to increasing call volume and declining membership, the UGLVAC is desperately looking for new members to help maintain a community-based emergency medical service. What’s in it for prospective members? The satisfaction of helping fellow human beings in their time of need is a unique and exhilarating feeling. Besides giving back to the community, another benefit of volunteering is to maintain a Volunteer Service at a lower cost for the township rather than converting to a paid service, which would be funded by either tax money or individual charge to patient. This way, the apparatus is stationed locally for fast response and is manned by people who care. There is a critical need for new members to fill all shifts. Daytime availability is a premium. The UGLVAC is looking for candidates who are residents of or are employed within the Upper Greenwood Lake coverage area, in the northwest corner of West Milford. The corps is looking for both Senior Members and Junior Members, starting at 16 years of age. Interested parties do not need to be an EMT or have any experience to join, and may start out as a “driver only.” The corps will provide driver training, basic “helper” training and will certify all new members in CPR. It is expected that all new members will enroll in an EMT training program or a certified First Responder course during their first year on the corps. Training is provided free of charge. In fact, all essential equipment is provided. New members will receive a uniform and pager. Additionally, all new members will be eligible for Length of Service Awards Program in which moneys will accrue like in an annuity. The corps is looking forward to seeing those interested in joining at the open house during Operation Critical Condition, where members will be available to answer questions. Refreshments will be served.
