WEST MILFORD On June 16 the West Milford Police Benevolent Association, Local 162 and the West Milford Elks Lodge, BPOE #2236, will host a benefit “All You Can Eat Pasta Dinner” for the McKinnon Family. Two weeks after Kim and Paul McKinnon’s eldest daughter Amanda graduated from West Milford High School in June of 2006 she was diagnosed with leukemia. At nearly the same time, her father Paul was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The youngest daughter, Meaghan donated T-cells from her bone marrow in a transplant for Amanda. Eventually Paul was able to return to work. His blood count started to look good and Amanda’s transplant took. Then when there seemed to be light at the end of the tunnel, they found the middle daughter, Kaitlyn, a junior at West Milford High School has melanoma. She is now receiving treatment. Amanda will turn 19 on June 21 and will no longer be covered by her fathers health insurance. Amanda can get on her own policy but the payments will be overwhelming to her and her family. In a joint effort to help alleviate this added pressure, these two groups have come together to host the benefit at the West Milford Elks Lodge, on Union Valley Road 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The dinner includes: salad, bread, pasta, meatballs, dessert, coffee, tea and soda. Tickets are $15, $12 for seniors, children 3 and under are free. Basket raffles and a 50/50 will be held. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling PO Laura Paul or PO Steve Blacksmith at 973-728-2802 or at the West Milford Police Department, the West Milford Elks Lodge, or any PBA member. Any and all donations are welcome.
