POMPTON PLAINS-Pompton Lakes resident, Diana Luciani, the nurse manager of Chilton Memorial Hospital's Labor & Delivery unit, won the hospital's coveted Service Star Award in May. Each month, Chilton honors one employee whose performance exceeds expectations and sets him or her apart as a role model for others. Those who nominate service star candidates provide testimony about the nominee's exemplary performance. "Diana Luiciani demonstrates her commitment to excellence by her true generosity of spirit when those around her need it most," says Pediatrics Nurse Manager, Linda Coveleski, who nominated Luciani for the award. "She always demonstrates her initiative to improve patient satisfaction and employee performance, and is a tribute to the nursing profession." Luciani supervises the Labor & Delivery unit staff, develops budgets, purchases supplies, oversees payroll, assures adequate staffing on all shifts, and reviews nursing documentation for her unit, but her colleagues say she performs far more than her required duties and serves as an inspiration for them. They also cite her compassion for others as especially noteworthy. Honorees are recognized at a monthly ceremony that family members may attend. Service Star employees receive recognition by having an actual celestial star named after them. In addition, Service Stars are also granted preferred parking during their Service Star Month.
