WEST MILFORD — There are several major road construction projects scheduled for the Hewitt section of the township beginning this month. Motorists should plan on delays and utilize alternate routes when possible. Warwick Turnpike between White Road and Lakeshore Drive will be widened and paved began yesterday, Thursday, April 14 with the entire project expected to last about four weeks. Traffic will be maintained in both directions, but periodic delays are expected. Construction is slated to start promptly at 8 a.m. and should be concluded about 4:30 p.m. each day. A pipe for the Municipal Utilities Authority will be installed on East Shore Road from Awosting Road to Greenwood Lake Turnpike. While no specific date is set for construction to begin, it is anticipated that the project will commence sometime in May of this year. Traffic will be maintained alternately in both directions by flagmen, so delays will be experienced periodically. This project is expected to last approximately four weeks as well. The reconstruction of the roadway on Greenwood Lake Turnpike between Awosting Road and Marshall Hill Road has already begun. Generally, construction will take place during other than commuter hours, and may even continue overnight. Traffic will continue to be maintained in both directions, but delays may be significant as numerous construction vehicles enter and exit the site necessitating the stoppage of traffic. This project may take as long as two years to complete. There will be adjustments to traffic patterns on occasion, and detours may be implemented as needed. The West Milford Police strongly advise motorists to plan alternate routes early to avoid unnecessary delays and to drive with extreme caution if you must utilize these roads during the construction process, particularly at night and during inclement weather.
