Ryerson continues to support the fight against cancer

    WEST MILFORD — Since Fauna Ryerson was 16 years old she has been an avid supporter in the fight against cancer. Ryerson is a resident of West Milford, NJ and a 2005 Graduate of West Milford High School. She became an advocate in the fight against cancer in 2004 after her mother Sandra was diagnosed with the combination of ovarian and lung cancer. Mrs. Ryerson underwent successful treatment in 2004 but recently passed away at the age of 45 on April 18, 2006. On August 5, one week before her 19th birthday, Ryerson donated 13 inches of hair to “Locks for Love”. This marks the second time in two years that she has made a donation to the “Locks for Love” charity. Fauna first donated 16 inches of hair back on October 28, 2004. Ryerson has also participated in other fund raisers such as “Relay for Life” in 2004 and 2005. Relay for Life is a 24-hour marathon event in which individuals and teams walk to raise money for cancer research. She is returning to Bloomfield College this month for her sophomore year. FShe majors in graphics print and digital media. She also serves as one of the starting pitchers on the Bloomfield College Softball Team. Following the passing of her mother in the middle of the 2006 season, Fauna and her older sister Tashaleigh, 22, dedicated the rest of there season to their mom. Fauna was selected to the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference All Tournament Team for her outstanding performance in post season play, and was chosen as the Teams MVP following the conclusion of the 2006 season.
