PATERSON - Passaic County Sheriff’s Department Mounted Patrol will host a national mounted patrol competition with Morris County Park Police this Saturday and Sunday, September 23 and 24, at Seton Hackney Stables in Morris County. Mounted patrol from around the country will participate in the National Police Equestrian Competition at the stables at 440 South Street, Morris Township. Over 100 rider and horse teams have entered from Canada, Texas, Michigan and Virginia. Passaic County Sheriff’s Department maintains a six member police horse unit at Garret Mountain Stables, under the direction of Captain Kevin Piscitelli. Building obstacles for the obstacle course has been accomplished with the help of Passaic County Technical Institute students in Robert Vendetta’s carpenter shop students. Local businesses have contributed items to the workshop and a local artist has painted props. The props include a simulated homeless shelter, a balancing teeter-totter and some push carts. The agenda on Saturday includes an opening ceremony, the dress uniform competition of horse and rider and, the equitation routine competition.
