WEST MILFORD - Six young people were injured in one-vehicle accident on Lincoln Avenue, early last Sunday morning, Nov 13. Daniel Carroll, 18, lost control of his 1991 Chevy Blazer and struck a utility pole, injuring himself and five passengers. West Milford Police Lt. Timothy Storbeck said on Wednesday that while the investigation continues, “alcohol and speed are believed to be involved.” The five passengers in the 12:38 a.m. accident were identified only as high school students. Carroll and three of the passengers airlifted to St Joseph’s Hospital in Patterson and Morristown Memorial Hospital. The remaining two were transported by ground ambulance to Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains. Police said later that none of their injuries were found to be life threatening. The accident impact downed the utility pole which caused power outages and road closures, police said. The West Milford Police Collision Unit and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office are continuing the investigation and the accident has prompted formation of a West Milford Township School District task force including the drivers education instructor, the district’s drug and alcohol counselor with police to educate kids about traffic safety. Units from the West Milford and Upper Greenwood Lake fire and ambulance services responded to the accident scene.
