Sparta 10, Goshen 0 Sparta 18, Goshen 6 Pat Driscol pitched and batted Sparta to a 10-0 rout of Goshen, N.Y. in the opening game of a doubleheader sweep on Saturtday in Sparta. Driscol pitched a complete game in the contest called after four and half innings by the 10-run mercy rule, scattering three singles, fanning two and walking one. At the plate, he went 2 for 3, with a three-run homer in the fourth and four RBIs. He was chosen the SCIL/Richards and Summers Player of the Week. In the nightcap, Sparta routed Goshen18-6 in a game halted in the bottom of the sixth inning. Scott Forrester went the first three innings, leaving with a 11-4 advantage as he picked up the “W” to even his record at 1-1. Sean Horan went 3 for 5, knocking in four runs while Andrew Passerelle homered with a teammate on base. Lakeland 17, Wallkill 8 Wallkill Valley led 5-0 after two innings but could not overcome an 11-run explosion in the top of the fourth and fell to unbeaten Lakeland 17-8 on Thursday. The contest was halted midway through the sixth by rain as Travis Wenz went 3 for 3 with two singles and a double while driving in a run for the Rangers. Mike Sudol homered and J.J. Conrad had a pair of doubles. Wallkill 8, Sparta 7 J.J. Conrad blasted a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to rally the Rangers to an 8-7 triumph over Sparta. His teammate Steve Simmons doubled and tripled while Andrew Passeralle went deep for the Spartans. Blair 8, Kittatinny 2 Jeff Kistle homered for Kittatinny, but the Cougars suffered an 8-2 loss to Blair Academy despite collecting nine hits on Saturday. Vernon 9, Newton 4 Casey Manning went the distance in his varsity start, scattering eight hits and whiffing seven as he pitched Vernon to a 9-4 win over Newton. Mike Ercolano singled three times and lofted a sacrifice fly for the Vikings while Ken Meerendonk doubled twice and Pete Tczap chipped in with three singles and stole three bases.
