Lenape 68 High Point 66 Lenape Valley caught fire in the second half, roaring back from a 39-22 deficit at the halftime break to edge High Point 68-66 to open the 2006-2007 boys’ basketball campaign. Senior guard Chris Carl fueled the comeback, dropping 29 points into the bucket and was chosen the SCIL Player of the Week by the staff of newjerseybasketball.org. Andrew Ciampaglio added 17 points with Dan Bitondo chipping in with a 10-point effort. Hopatcong 49, PJ 42 Hopatcong rallied in the second half to topple Pope John 49-42 as senior guard Mike Tobin led the Chiefs, pumping 26 points through the iron. Obinna Ozurumba, a sophomore forward, scored 10 points while junior forward Sam Mushman sparked the Lions with a 20-point performance. Sparta 44, Vernon 38 Sparta surged to a 12-0 lead after eight minutes and went on to defeated Vernon 44-38. A trio of seniors, Greg Miller netted 13 points, Luis Velez added 11 and Derrick Freligh with 10, combined to score 34 points for the victors. The Vikings, who finished 20-6 a year ago, were led by junior guard David Jacob with 16 points. Kittatinny 54, Wallkill 37 Kittatinny snapped a 14-14 deadlock entering the second quarter and went on to record a 54-37 victory over Wallkill Valley. Ryan Carroll fueled the surge, netting 15 of his game-high 25 points in the second half. The Rangers were led by Paul Palazzolo who scored 14 points. Jefferson 46, Newton 32 Trailing 23-20 at the intermission, Jefferson pulled out a 46-32 victory over Newton as sophomore Derek Hall and senior Pat McCarney netted 13 points apiece. Junior forward Scott Paul scored 11 points for Newton. Somerset Tech 86 Sussex Tech 33 Matt Wamback riddled the cords with a game-high 21 points but Sussex Tech dropped a 86-33 verdict to Somerset Tech in a New Jersey Vo-Tech confrontation.
