Tobin led all scores with 25 points when the Chiefs edged Mount Olive 50-48 in the semifinals with Pat Coote chipping in with 10 points. Sparta defeated Wayne Hills 73-42 as Chris McCann netted 16 of his game-high 21 points in the first half to fuel the Spartans’ surge to a 38-25 lead at intermission. Ken McFarlane chipped in with a dozen points and grabbed six rebounds. Patriots edge Voorhees Lenape Valley went 2-1 in the Hopatcong Holiday Tournament as the Patriots edged Voorhees in the final consolation game to up their overall record to 3-3. Trailing 19-13 after one quarter, the Patriots rallied behind the 1-2 scoring punch of Keith Flaherty who dented the cords with a game-high 24 points and Andrew Ciampaglio who tickled the twine with 20 points. Two days earlier LVR trounced Butler 62-30 as Ciampaglio scored 19 points and Chris Carl was runnerup with 16. Newton comes back for a win Following three straight setbacks to start the season, Newton rebounded with back-to-back victories to capture the championship plaque in the North Warren Christmas Tournament on Thursday by defeating the host Patriots in Blairstown by a score of 59-47. Wallkill rolls over Kinnelon Mike Hern claimed his third straight MVP trophy when Wallkill Valley rolled to a 58-49 victory over Kinnelon in the championship contest of the Ranger Holiday Tournament on Thursday. Hern, who was chosen the Wallkill Valley Athlete of the Week while his teammates Joe Byrne and Paul Pallazzolla were named to the all-tourney team. Stokes scored 18 points apiece for the Falcons while Patrick McCarney tallied six points, grabbed five rebounds, picked off a pair of steals and blocked two shots. In a 58-47 victory over Morris Knolls in the semifinals, Seji turned in a double-double, pumping a game-high 20 points through the rim, including a pair of treys while pulling down 10 rebounds. Stokes chipped in with 14 points and just missed a double-double when he grabbed nine boards.
