Byram offers golf, tennis lessons for kids and adults

    Byram - The Byram Parks and Recreation Dept. is offering golf lessons for adults and tennis lessons for children and adults. Golf lessons for adults will run from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, beginning April 18 through June 6. The fee is $160 for Byram residents and $170 for non-residents. The class is designed for novices and beginners. The first two sessions will take place inside the Civic Center, the second two weeks will be held outside the Civic Center, the third two weeks will be at a driving range, and the final two weeks at Rolling Greens Golf Course in Andover. Leslie Van Sickle, LPGA member, will instruct. Tennis lessons for ages six to adult will begin on Thursday, May 4, and end on Thursday, June 8, with a rain date make-up of June 15.Cost for the six-week session is $40 for Byram residents, $45 for non-residents. Lessons include forearm and backhand stroke development, serving, scoring and game strategy. Participants must bring their own racquets. The instructor is Glenn Martinsen.All classes will take place at the Byram Municipal tennis courts on Mansfield Drive. The tennis lessons will be organized into sections according to ase and skill lever. Section A1, for beginners ages six through eight, will meet from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Thursdays; section A2, for ages nine through 12 and eight-year-olds with some experience, will meet from 5 p.m. to 5:50 p.m; section A3, for ages 13 through 18 with some experience and adults, will meet from 6 p.m. to 6:55 p.m. For information or to register for either activity, call 973-347-2500, ext. 160/161.
