Egg Harbor - Austin Ormsbee, a 14-year-old student from Byram Intermediate School, won the 112 pound state championship title at the N.J. Scholastic State Wrestling Championships held March 18-19 in Egg Harbor. Ormsbee had previously taken second place two years in a row, in 2004 and 2005. This year he was seeded second to Chuck Sabin, last year’s champion Twenty three wrestlers vied for the 112 pound title. Ormsbee defeated two Sussex County wrestlers, Billy Smith 14-3 in the semifinals and tech falling 17-1 Ethan Orr in the finals. Ormsbee credits much of his success to hard work and support of coach Shawn Hall, who also coaches other successful local wrestlers, including Will Livingston, Tommy Spellman, and Derek Valenti. Ormsbee, a member of the Pascack Hills wrestling team, also holds three national titles and is one of three New Jersey wrestlers to win the prestigious Trinity Award.
